| Vessantara Jakata. Silk, resist-dyed weft hold. Central field: multiple pattern repeats. A register of pavilions with three niches filles with flowering plants. A pair of crocodile banners flutter one either side of each temple. A tree-of-life separates each pavilion. In the lower register are images of Prince Vessantara and his wife Maddhi with parasols above, each carrying one of their children. Two guardian figures either side and two pairs of kneeling worshippers to the right beneath the pavilion. |
